Kaolin DH
Kaolin is a whitish pliable rock of sedimentary origin, formed mainly by the clay mineral Kaolinite, a layered silicate mineral.
ASIA MINERAL MINES (AMM) key raw material base is located in Vietnam, where kaolin has traditionally been mined and processed for hundreds of years. There are also quality kaolin deposits in the surrounding countries of Southeast Asia. As additional raw materials, AMM also mines pure quartz and sands as by-products of mining and floating kaolin.
AMM achieve‘s high-quality and economic processing of raw materials into both semi-finished and finished products, through their use of the most modern technological procedures. Our important competitive advantage is in the use of purely natural processes, combined with the use of cutting-edge German and Czech technologies for the treatment of kaolin.
Floating kaolin is a starting material in the ceramics and paper industries, but it is also widely used in other important industries such as the chemical, rubber, and pharmaceutical industries, to name a very few.
AMM produces floated kaolins, which enable further utilization for fired (calcined) fillers and refractory slags. During floatation sessions, AMM exclusively follows the ‚ENVIROMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY‘ ecological technological procedures for the treatment of raw kaolin.
Our starting material for the formation of raw kaolin is acerbic granite with a predominance of acerbic feldspars. Grainte of this type originated as deep plutonic lava veined with quartz. Chemical weathering under certain conditions (kaolinization) converts silicates, especially feldspars, into clay minerals, mainly kaolinite and quartz grains, to larger quartz boulders depending on the type of parent rock. The conversion took place through tropical weathering, or through the action of hydrothermal solutions. The original material decomposed into kaolinite and quartz, accompanied by other impurities like fine lithium mica. The granite was affected by chemical erosion at elevated temperatures, as well as by water saturated with CO2 and humic acids leached from the soil.
The kaolin deposits in our quarries are primarily found as a whole, with secondary quantities redeposited. The mined raw material contains 30 – 40% kaolin, the rest consists of pure quartz boulders and quartz sand, which is an integral part of the raw material. At greater depths, the kaolin exhibits higher quality and whiteness, free from surface overburden contamination. Currently (2020) we mine high quality uncontaminated kaolin in the third and fourth levels.
